How do you preserve review provenance before designing?
Save the review URL or platform, publication date, exact text, reviewer display name, star rating when relevant, incentive status, relationship to the business, and the person who approved reuse. A screenshot without this record is easy to mislabel, crop, or reuse after the source changes.
Confirm that the review describes the business, product, or service being promoted. Do not merge sentences from different reviewers into a composite testimonial unless the result is clearly presented as a summary rather than an individual endorsement.
How do you check incentives and material connections?
Google prohibits offering incentives in exchange for customers posting, changing, or removing reviews. The FTC also addresses incentives, fake reviews, insider testimonials, and material connections. A reviewer who received something of value or has a business, employment, family, or agency relationship may require clear context or disclosure.
Do not select only positive reviewers for a reward program or condition a benefit on favorable sentiment. If a legitimate incentive was available regardless of opinion, record the terms and use a clear disclosure where the endorsement appears.
How do you keep the quotation accurate?
Shortening a long review can be reasonable when the excerpt keeps the original meaning. Use an ellipsis carefully, avoid rearranging words into a stronger claim, and do not change ordinary praise into a measurable performance statement. Keep the full source available for internal review.
If the review describes a specific result, add context that prevents a misleading interpretation. Do not imply that every customer will receive the same timeline, savings, health outcome, legal outcome, financial result, or transformation when the business lacks support for that conclusion.
How do you protect customer privacy and dignity?
Public availability does not make every detail suitable for a promotional graphic. Remove addresses, order numbers, appointment details, health information, family details, property access information, private disputes, or anything unnecessary to the proof. Sensitive industries should use their approved privacy and advertising review process.
Ask permission before using customer photos, private messages, recorded calls, or material that was not originally published for public reuse. Make refusal easy and do not pressure a customer to become marketing content.
How do you add useful decision context?
A review graphic becomes more useful when the caption explains what service the customer selected, which part of the experience the quotation describes, and what a new customer should do next. Use only facts the business can support and keep the review visually distinct from the business’s own claims.
Rotate review proof with process, education, offers, and people content. A feed made only of praise can feel repetitive and leave practical questions unanswered. Use recurring review themes to identify which FAQ or process post should come next.
How do you build a repeatable approval record?
Store the original source, approved excerpt, display attribution, disclosure, visual asset, caption, reviewer permission where needed, and publication destinations together. Set a recheck date for time-sensitive claims and remove the post from future scheduling if the context changes.
Give one person final authority over testimonial reuse. The designer should not have to infer whether a quotation is genuine, representative, permitted, or properly disclosed. A short evidence record protects quality and makes future repurposing faster.
What does current guidance change about this plan?
We used current Google review guidance and the FTC's endorsement, testimonial, and consumer-review resources. The workflow treats promotional reuse as a new context requiring provenance, disclosure, privacy, and meaning checks.
Incentivized sentiment is not an acceptable shortcut
Google states that incentives offered in exchange for posting, changing, or removing reviews are fake and misleading content prohibited by its policy.
How to apply itRecord whether any benefit was offered and stop reuse when the review process depended on favorable sentiment or an undisclosed condition.

Review FTC: Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule Q&AMeaning must survive the excerpt
FTC endorsement guidance focuses on whether the overall advertising message is truthful and non-misleading, not merely whether the selected words appeared somewhere in the original review.
How to apply itKeep the complete review with the approval record and reject edits that strengthen the claim, remove a material limitation, or change the customer's meaning.
Review FTC: Endorsements, influencers, and reviewsWhich useful examples can you adapt?
These are not fake captions to copy word for word. Use them as structure, then replace the proof, timing, and CTA with real business details.
For a DIY-versus-service decision, compare the next campaign, available source files, editing time, required formats, deadline, and ownership after delivery.
Replace every detail with the current business facts, then keep only the evidence needed to choose the smallest path that gets the campaign published.
What is the next asset that must actually be published?
Answer with one approved input from real photos, offer facts, brand details, CTA language, and honest source material supplied by the buyer. Do not add a claim that the source material cannot support.
Is the bottleneck strategy, source material, design time, approval, or publishing ownership?
Use the caption to remove that friction, then tell the reader how to choose the smallest path that gets the campaign published without introducing a second CTA.
